"Hmm, I doubt it will make more money. Like many others I subbed to WOW for years so I not only bought the box but paid the monthly sub month after month.
Now an intensive RMAH user may spend more than $15 per month on AH fees but an average user? It may be closer to zero what with the handful of free auctions you get. Plus there's a fairly clear workaround where if you don't want to spend real cash you can sell your stuff for gold then sell the gold. (It's a fallacy of course, based on valuing fee avoidance over total income but nevertheless might be a popular one).
Also WOW had a unique aspect in that the MMO genre was fairly new and no one has even come close to it. It's not just the most successful sub-based Western MMO, it's the most successful by a factor of 24. 12 million players against 500k in second place. For D3 to match that it would have to annihilate the competition and continue to do so for years.
Here's my prediction. Diablo 3 will be the top action RPG for several years. It will sell 30 million copies at an average of $50 each. It will make about as much on the RMAH as it does on box sales. It will make twice as much from selling expansions as it does from selling the original box. So what’s your idea on this topic then?
